Oct 2 - Warsaw Colour Ride

14 cyclists turned out for this ride thru the Dummer countryside on an ideal  autumn day for cycling with the bonus of the fall colours as a back drop. At 10:00 we left the Lions Park in Warsaw to cycle up Rock Rd beside the Indian River to Cooper Rd then east to 4th Line Rd. 4th Line has one medium hill climb on the ride south to Centre Dummer Rd for a 3 km ride east to the 6th Line bush trail. This 2 km gravel trail was covered with leaves so we had to ride carefully to avoid the covered rocks nicknamed "Dummer pineapples” by Barry. This trail, a road allowance, emerges from the woods to join the 6th Line Rd, where we continued south across Webster Rd to Cty Rd 8, east to the 8th Line Rd, north across Webster to the 8th Line bush trail & a bumpy ride to Centre Line Rd. Turning left at this intersection (can be confusing) we cycled east on Centre Line crossing the 7th to the 4th Line & with a slight jog on to Douglas Rd returned to Warsaw for lunch at Kylies (652-9600) after a 3 hour ride. This 40 km route has a few medium grade hills & can be shortened by cycling east on Webster Rd to the 8th Line. On the other hand if you want a longer ride with serious hill climbs, Bob Penny & Frank Marett cycled a total of 112 km  from their west-end homes in Peterborough! The roads are a combination of hard packed gravel & asphalt with the rough bush trails to negotiate so wider tires are recommended.
