Douro Loop Sept 7 2011

14 cyclists met in the Beavermeade parking lot as the Ganaraska ride from Garden Hill had been cancelled because the forecast indicated rain but the day while overcast was a pleasant 15 C & dry. From Beavermeade we cycled north on the Rotary Greenway trail over the Tollington pedestrian bridge to Nassau Mills Rd by Trent U which we crossed to ride east on Pioneer/Nassau Rd Rd, bottom 2 photos, 6 km to Cty Rd 4. Rode east on Cty Rd 4 for 1 km to the Old Douro Rd crossing Hgw 28 to Cty Rd 8 & into the village of Douro, photos of PG Towns store with Pat cycling past & St Josephs church. At Douro turned right off Cty Rd 8 onto the Douro 4th Line & south to Division (Boundary) Rd. West on Division across Hgw 28 a rather long hill climb, top photo, & down to Sweeney Line which we took south to the T intersection with the Old Norwood Rd.Cycled north on Old Norwood up 2 hills to Television Rd then south 1 km to Maniece Ave which takes you east beside Liftlock Golfland to Ashburnham Dr & Beavermeade. This is a ride of 35 km with some moderate hill climbs thru the Douro & Otonabee countryside. It is one of many routes into Peterborough County that can be reached from the Rotary trail. Had lunch inside at The Porch & Pint pub.
