Petroglyphs Ride June 27

We had 12 cyclists turn out for this awesome ride including Doug Brown's daughter Karen and Al Christie a friend of Bob Prole's from Toronto. We met at the Riverview Zoo parking lot where Bob Penny turned up after cycling from his home on Stoney Lake said hello (very friendly too)) then proceeded on his own lonely way back home.We drove up Hyw 28 to Northey's Bay Rd, then to QUARRY BAY PARK which is 2 km before the turn into the Petroglyphs Park. Cycled from Quarry to the Petroglyphs and rode around their trails(a lovely forested area). The staff opened the Learning Centre where we saw a 20 minute video on the history of the park and had a tour of their interesting exhibits, Then we were able to enter & view the actual petroglyph site (there are over 900) in the enclosed glass building. After an hour in air conditioning we cycled up to the site of the Nephton mine and returned to Quarry Bay for a swim & lunch. Brian Neck introduced us to this jewel in the Kawarthas which has parking, wash & change rooms, picnic tables, and a swimming area with a platform and a lovely view of Upper Stoney Lk. It is not listed on any of the maps that I looked at and the Tourism bureau had never heard of it, so now you have our INSIDER'S INFO! We cycled 25 km in sunny hot humid conditions but the ride in the Petroglyphs park was in the shade and we enjoyed the air-con break. Next week(July4) Bob Prole will be leading a ride from Grafton to Colborne, details to follow.
