Frank’s Marmora Ride Sept 14 2011

15 Dudes met at the Marett cottage on Crow Lk, bottom photo, to join Frank on a ride of 47 km thru the Marmora countryside. As the photos indicate the conditions were ideal for cycling, 18 C, sunshine, & no wind. From the cottage we rode back to Hgw #7 & into Marmora, next 2 photos, then out to the impressive Marmora Mine quarry, next few photos, returning to Marmora to the Cordova Rd a NE ride of 15 km up to the village of Cordova Mines. The next 3 photos were taken on the bridge over Beaver Cr followed by 2 photos at the top of a climb at a big rock cut on the Cordova Rd. From Cordova Mines we cycled west a few km then south on Cty Rd 48 to the bridge where Belmont Lk flows into the Crowe R, next 5 photos. Continued south on Cty Rd 48 to the Belmont 2nd Line continuing south up a hill or 2, photo, to Hgw #7 crossing #7 next photo, to continue south on Tiffen Rd 1 km to the rail line trail, 2 photos, & cycling on the trail to McLeary Rd then north on McLeary across #7 to High Shore Rd which runs along the lakeshore to a forest trail, 2 photos, & back to the cottage where we enjoyed fluid replacements & a BQ lunch. Many thanks to Frank for leading us on yet another superb ride & hosting the group at his Crowe Lk vacation home. The ride took a little over 3 hours, we left Peterborough at 9:15, returning about 4:15. Most of the route was on pavement, the rail trail surface was in surprisingly good condition considering it has never been upgraded & the uphill portions of the ride were easily managed by everyone.
