August 26 - Westwood Ride

We had 2 groups for this ride on a cool overcast day. Pete Macloghlin & Barry Diceman led one group on a 38 km from downtown Westwood riding south on Asphodel 3rd Line to Asphodel Pk on the Ouse R at the intersection with Cty Rd 2 before continuing south to the TCT & west to Birdsall where we met Conrad Hill’s group. Conrad led his group east on the TCT towards Hasting while the others rode up to Cty Rd 38, south to River Rd & west to Birdsall Line & south to Birdsall Pt on Rice Lk. After a break we returned north on Birdsall Line to River Rd & east to Cty Rd 38 & north to River Rd which crosses the Ouse R on a new bridge as we rode east before reaching the TCT & a ride beside the Trent R to Hastings for lunch at Banjos. After lunch we returned on the TCT to Asphodel 3rd Line for an uphill climb to Cty Rd 2 continuing north to Westwood.

Aug 19 2015 - Ken Powell’s cottage ride

We met at Ken’s cottage on Clear Lk for todays ride. Ken led a 30 km route while Bob Penny led a 45 km route. Ken led 9 cyclists east on Birchview Rd to Camp Line & south to Cty Rd 6. East on Cty Rd 6 to Cty Rd 4 then south to Warsaw Caves Rd & into Warsaw Caves Pk for a ride thru the park to the Indian R. From the park we continued on Warsaw Caves Rd over the Indian R to the 3rd Line Rd taking Sawmill Rd beside the Indian R to the 4th Line Rd & north uphill to Halls Glen where Ken purchased fresh tomatoes before we continued on Cty Rd 6 to McCrackens Landing Rd & north to McCrackens Landing on Stony Lk where Bob Woosman took us for a visit of his lakeside cottage property. From McCrackens we cycled west on Birchview Rd to Ken’s cottage for a lakeside BQ lunch & swim, followed by the option of a boat cruise. Bob led 12 cyclists east on Birchview up the “big hill” to McCrackens Landing Rd & around the Hamilton Bay Golf Course before riding south to Cty Rd 6 & south on the 4th Line to Warsaw Caves Rd to Cty Rd 4 into Warsaw to Payne Line Rd & north taking Oke Rd  east to Cty Rd 4 to return to McCrackens Landing & Birchview Rd. Aug 12 - Pete MacLoghlin’s West-end ride

 23 cyclists, including Gordon Powell for his 1st ride, turned out for this 35 km ride. From Pete’s home  we cycled thru the Mapleridge subdivision to Dobbin Rd south over the Parkway to Whittington Dr & down to Elmdale Rd past the Sysco plant for a moderate hill climb followwd by a downhill run to Brown Line. We cycled west on Brown Line to Springdale before returning east to Airport Rd, over Hgw 115 to Beardsmore Rd which eventually takes you to Monaghan Rd where we regrouped beside the Otonabee R. We then wound our way on city streets to Lock St for a ride around Little Lk cemetery before cycling over the pedestrian bridge to the RGWT then north to the London St bridge taking the Jackson Cr trail back to Pete’s home for a poolside lunch where Burton McCelland treated us to a tasting of his medal winning ciders & wines.

August 5 - Pete Gardner’s ABC Ride

25 cyclists met at The Bridgenorth Lions Park for a 9:30 start to Pete Gardners’s ABC ride (Around Bridgenorth & Chemung) a picturesque 40 km route. The 22 C temperature was pleasant for cycling & we stayed dry although there were some dark clouds. From the ballpark we wound our way on Bridgenorth streets to the causeway & over to the Ennismore side to ride uphill on Yankee Line past the Quarry Golf Club to McAuley Rd & south to Irish Rd for a moderate uphill climb west to Perdue Rd which takes you thru a wooded area where we took a loop thru a subdivision before returning to Perdue Rd & south to Clonkility Line. Conrad led 5 cyclists east to Gifford Dr while Pete led us up a rather steep hill (see photo) then down to Gifford Dr which takes you along the Chemung Lk shoreline where we met Conrad’s group before heading uphill on Dalhaven Dr to Perigrine Rd & east to Yankee Line to ride downhill to the causeway & into Bridgenorth where we cycled east on Kelly Blvd to East Communication Rd & uphill to Ward St. Here we split into 2 groups with Pete leading several cyclists up E Communication to the 7th Line & The Rotary Bridgenorth Trail. Pete MacLoghlin led the 2nd group east on Ward St to Selwyn Rd (Cty Rd 20) for a 3 km ride to Holden Rd which has a long gradual uphill climb before crossing Cty Rd 18 (Bridgenorth to Lakefield Rd) to reach the 7th Line & east to the Rotary Bridgenorth Trail  for a 3 km ride to the 5th Line & west across Chemong Rd to Pinehill Rd which has scenic views of Chemung Lk as we wound our way to Westlake Rd & Pete’s lakeshore home for a BBQ lunch provided by Pete + Barking Squirrel beer by Bill Punt
