Oct 1 - Barry’s Cavan Ride

17 cyclists met in the parking lot at the junction of Hgw 115 & Cty Rd 10, the Millbrook turnoff, for a 10:00 start on a misty overcast day. From the parking lot we cycled up the long uphill grade over Hgw 115 on Cty Rd 10 to Larmer Line then west over Hgw 115 to Tapley 1/4 Line. South uphill on Tapley to Fallis Line & west to Glamorgan Rd, cycling south under the hydro lines thru a forest glade to Pontypool Rd. Pontypool Rd parallels Hgw 115 as you ride downhill past Black Diamond Golf Club to Porter Rd ( Cty Rd 32) on which we cycled north to Manvers Station Rd & into to the CPR rail-line before continuing north on Porter Rd to Weston Rd, east to Glengarry Rd into Bethany for lunch at Butter Tarts n’ More (705-277-2500) on Hgw 7A. After lunch we rode east in Bethany to the VCRT cycling to Syer Line which has some short uphill grades as you go over the CPR rail-line then across Tapley 1/4 Line before returning to the cars. This is a 35 km undulating route that avoids the steeper hills as you ride thru the picturesque Cavan countryside. The VCRT was in good condition for cycling, there is a boggy section just before Dranoel Rd which gets covered in water after a rainfall but was OK today. The fall colours would have been spectacular in sunshine but the sun did not appear until after the ride!
